Rearcross FC Grounds hosted the meeting of Rearcross U-14’s and Nenagh AFC ‘B’ in this Obama Plaza First Division League tie with the home side romping to a seven nil victory. Rearcross signalled intent from the kick off and hit the front on eleven minutes following a good move on the right involving Stephen Rochford and Dylan Ryan before Patrick Dawson slided home from close range. The Reaboys continued to press and added a second in the thirteen minute when Patrick Dawson passed to Brian Nolan who sent a delightful effort to the right of the visiting custodian. The Brickfields team picked it up after this and would have pegged one back in the 23rd minute but for staunch defending from Colm Lenihan and Paul Nolan on the goal line. The visitors came close again seconds later, this time Cathal Kennedy produced a superb save to turn the ball outside the post when a goal looked certain. Paul Nolan’s attempt on goal was just wide eight minutes before the break but the Niall Ryan Joinery sponsored side stretched it to three nil after Stephen Rochford set up Brian Nolan who had it all to do but got the vital prod to notch up his second of the day. Rearcross kept the pressure on after the resumption and took up a four nil lead when Brian Nolan was to the fore before a well positioned Dylan Ryan drove between the posts. Stephen Rochford netted his fifteenth of the season with a cool finish following good approach play. Brian Nolan had the ball in net again but play was called back for offside. Patrick Dawson scored his second of the outing midway through the half after getting behind the Nenagh defence to slice home from ten yards. Full credit to the visiting players who didn’t give up and came close when a free kick effort which was held by Cathal Kennedy in the Rearcross goals. Danny Poyzer copper fastened the win with two minutes to play with a well struck goal to leave Rearcross comfortable winners on the day but stiffer tests lay ahead.
